How do I tell if my tree is sick?
There are many symptoms to look for to find out if your tree is sick or not. Often times these symptoms are not immediately visible to the naked eye. Instead however, they require individual inspection for the symptoms. Dead wood is part of the trunk or branches and is dehydrated which leads to breaking effortlessly. These branches and sections of the trunk should be removed as soon as possible in order to cut off the sending of nutrients that go to waste. Cracks are often seen as being high in depth and beginning on the bark layer of the tree. If the cracks go deep into the tree it means that the tree is very sick. In most cases trees breakdown from the interior to the exterior.
This means that a decaying tree is very difficult to notice in its early stages. The best signs to look for decaying are fungi, or mushrooms that grow off of the wood. These symptoms are why we believe that trees require inspections regularly. At the very least after each of the four seasons your trees should be inspected for their health. Trees that are sick are only made weaker by storms and extreme climates.
