Preventing Winter Injury to Trees
Winter damage trees is quite common throughout the Asheville, North Carolina area. We tend to see quite a bit of evidence of it in the spring. The best way to tell with many species is behind checking out the color of the foliage. While they should be greeen, you’ll notice a reddish color to the leaves or needles. This is purely due to winter damage.
There are quite a few things you can do to protect your trees and shrubs from winter damage if you follow these guidelines. These include watering, fertilizing, mulching and protection.
One of the most important things to do here when preventing bark is to use burlap material and wrap it around each tree or shrub you have. This will seriously minimize the impact that cold weather will have against the health of your trees.
