How to Prevent Severe Tree Damage
Storm damage to trees can and should be prevented. The problem is most people don’t consider it until it’s too late. Trees that fall due to storms can wreak havoc on your property. Many will fall on roof-tops, the actual house or building and hit power-lines. There are many different types of damage to trees caused by storms:
Blow-Over: This simply means that the tree is literally pushed over by high winds.
Stem Failure: Trees never heal their own wounds. Wood simply grows over them. The result is that these areas where the wounds are, are structurally weaker than the rest of the tree. For trees with heavy crowns, abrupt winds or severe weather will hit these weak points causing a collapse.
Crown Twist: Over time, the crown becomes twisted due to poor maintenance. Stem twisting will cause the tree to become damaged with the effect of a split or branch collapse.
Root Failure: Heavy winds or flooding can and will uproot even the largest trees leaving them to fall at a moment’s notice.
