Learning About Root Pruning
Root pruning is not something that should be performed for every tree. It’s only done in specific situations. Instead of using pruning shears, we use equipment like shovels, spades or a trenching machine.
Root pruning slows down the growth of a tree, so preferably we like to perform this sort of work during the offseason, so when spring rolls around root growth will explode again.
Root pruning is also very useful for commercial properties or in situations where new construction may be needed or planned 2-3 years ahead of time. Tree that have had their roots pruned are much easier to dig up and transplant elsewhere than those whom haven’t.
