Common Trees in North and South Carolina
In North and South Carolina there exists the largest variety of tree species in the country. This is mostly due in part to the huge differences in climate experienced by the region. The varying climates create different types of soil which mean different types of trees can prosper. Hardwoods, pines, and oak trees cover the vast majority of trees in the entire area. Towards the mountains oaks and hickories are the most common. However, it becomes more complex when you consider the fact that most of these types of trees have upwards of 3 dozen various types. It’s no wonder that the two states are so beautiful with such a large representation of nature at its beck and call.
More specifically the juniper, American sweetgum, and red maple trees are very common in rural areas. Many homes throughout the states are decorated with the red maple tree. The American tulip tree is quickly growing and is adorned with beautiful flowers. Even the eastern redbud is commonly found in these states. Many of these eastern redbuds experience the growing of pink flowers in the spring season. One of the most interesting facts regarding these trees is that the pink flowers they grow are actually edible.
