Preventing Rabbit Damage to Trees
Bunnies are beautiful animals but when it comes to trees, they may be responsible for much damage. Rabbits have a habit of eating bark off of trees which will cause a series of other issues such an insect infestation or tree decay.
There is only one sure-proof way to protect your trees from rabbits and that would be surrounding the base of the tree with hardware cloth. This needs to be done with wires and should be elevated somewhat while leaving no room underneath.
It’s elevated because during snowfall, rabbits will climb above the cloth fence to get to your tree’s bark. The idea here is to seal off every possible area to prevent damage.
