How to Choose a Good Tree Service and Avoid Being Scammed
If you’ve decided that taking care of your own trees just wasn’t for you, then you aren’t alone. Then the challenge becomes how do you find a good tree service and avoid being scammed. Unfortunately, there are many less than reputable tree service companies, so you will need to be careful and do your research. Let’s look at something you need to do.
1. Insurance – Make sure that the tree service company carries adequate liability insurance and WCB insurance. You should be able to see all certificates of insurability. If a company you hire has an accident, you want to make sure that they have the right liability insurance, otherwise it could become your financial burden.
2. Better Business Bureau – This is a great way to check on a company’s reputation and credibility. Make sure that the company you are thinking of hiring is registered with the BBB. If it is not, because some don’t, it doesn’t automatically make them a scammer, but it does mean you need to check more carefully before you part with your hard earned money.
3. Reputation – Do a little research on your own and find out just what kind of reputation the tree service company has. Ask previous customers if they were happy. Check to see if they are a member of any trade associations. If there are unhappy people, find out why they aren’t happy with the company. Then base your decision on that.
4. Too Cheap/Too Expensive – Have a look at the pricing. If the prices sound too good to be true, most likely it is. If you are getting a rock bottom price you should expect to get little more than minimal services and they may not be as professional as you like. Then again, if the price is far more expensive than others that does not make the tree service better. It’s a good idea to discover what the industry average is and then use that as your mark.
That’s just 4 simple things you can do to ensure the tree service company you hire will meet or exceed your expectations.
