Tips for Pest or Disease Removal from Trees
Insects and other pests can truly wreak havoc on your tree(s) unless your prepared or in the process of removing them. Not caring for them properly can and will lead to the tree eventually dying. Although there are hundreds of different types of insects that my harmless that live on trees, many do in fact cause fatal damage.
Chewing Insects
Insects that defoliate move to the foliage and leaves of the tree and feed. If it’s a fruit tree, they feed on the fruit. Caterpillars and beetles are the most commonly known type of insects that chew their way through a tree’s energy source. Although trees are tough and do bounce back most of the time, if left un cared for, they will eventually die due to the lack of energy.
Boring Insects
Boring insects are the worst predators when it comes to tree pests. They will “bore” or dig into the bark, tissue, roots and branches of a tree and proceed on infesting from the inside out. They lay eggs and infest the inside blocking feeding paths of water for the tree to stay alive. If you see things like holes and sawdust, it’s important that you put together a treatment plan immediately. These boring insects will most likely kill your tree if there is not treatment plan in place.
Sucking Insects
These insects infest a tree by sucking out a tree’s natural liquid from branches, twigs and leaves. You can see signs that your tree has been infected if you view mold or scaly formations on the leaves or branches.
