Damage Caused By Tree Roots to Sidewalks
Tree root sidewalk-cement conflicts are far more common than you would think. In most cases, many trees get planted and outgrow their growth zone. The roots simply require much more space than the original developers had planned or designed at that point in time. Because these trees are prevented from being removed either by a local ordinance or because it would ruin the landscape, we have plenty of other options available to you.
The damage caused by roots to sidewalks include lifting the cement at the seams or expansion joints, or lifting slabs up in the air. You see, once this happens it can become a major liability issue. Anyone can overlook it, trip, fall and injure themselves.
Root cutting is one option that we’ve provided as a temporary solution. The issue with this is that it is in fact temporary, the roots will regrow within the next 2 -3 years time and you’ll have the same problem again. Also, you should be concerned with structural support problems. This is another issue to be dealt with.
We can also increase the thickness of the concrete from 4 to 6 inches in order to make the sidewalk less likely to break under pressure from the tree roots.
